    Position Summary

    This position supports the Warehouse Manager in contributing to a successful operation by daily guiding area supervisors, working supervisors, and utilizing teammates for optimum productivity gain and cost reductions while ensuring the safety and security of the DC. This position may assume the role of Warehouse Manager in his/her absence.

    Responsibilities

    Shipping and Receiving:

    • Monitors volume of business and determines appropriate work schedule with the support of the Warehouse Manager (Daily)
    • Sets productivity and cost objectives with the support of the Warehouse Manager. Establishes necessary controls to ensure objectives are met.
    • Monitors condition and maintenance of operating / material handling equipment. Recommends appropriate changes of equipment to Warehouse Manager.
    • Periodically monitors the efficient handling of shipments & receipts.
    • Reviews the loading and unloading schedules to minimize detention or demurrage charges.
    • Coordinates shipping and receiving schedules with the support of other departments to ensure truck lines are meeting appointment schedules. Takes corrective action when necessary.
    • Prioritizes inbound shipments to ensure rapid delivery.
    • Coordinates outbound shipments to take full advantage of consolidations and combinations.
    • Investigates shipping discrepancies and takes appropriate corrective action. Coordinates any necessary records or invoice corrections.

    Administration:

    • Communicates Company and departmental policies and procedures received from the Warehouse Manager to area & working supervisors. Ensures these policies & procedures are properly communicated to material handlers and properly enforced.
    • Responsible for providing appropriate training, performance analysis, and special projects to area & working supervisors. Ensures teammates are also cross-trained in various job functions.
    • Manages the coordination of daily warehouse activity with support from the Warehouse Manager.
    • Schedules & manages vacation time for material handlers.
    • Determines the distribution and coordination of work assignments & schedules with the assistance of area & working supervisors.
    • Investigates and resolves concerns/issues or refers the issue to the Warehouse Manager.
    • Recommends overtime as necessary, striving to keep it to a minimum.
    • Communicates and trains area & working supervisors on safety guidelines. Takes appropriate action to ensure a safe, clean work environment for material handlers.
    • Investigates and reviews accidents/incidents and forwards to the Warehouse Manager.
    • Monitors teammate attendance with the support of the Warehouse Manager and takes corrective action when appropriate.

       

    • Conducts or provides input regarding performance appraisals with area & working supervisors to identify strengths, monitor performance and recommend areas for improvement.
    • Assumes the role of Warehouse Manager in his/her absence and makes the appropriate decisions to ensure the efficient operation of the facility.

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelors Degree in Logistics/Business Administration plus 2 years progressive responsibility in logistics and warehousing environment.
