The Treating Specialist is responsible for all operations related to the application of “dip” (coating to ensure adherence) to rolls of fabric. The rolls are produced at associated plants and transported to the Gastonia facility for treatment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, recordkeeping, checking specifications and settings, machine and process operation, surveillance of operation and process, sampling, quality checks, housekeeping and supply maintenance. The process requires operators to connect large rolls of fabric, wrapped around shell cores, to in-progress treatment processes by sewing fabric to currently treated fabric. This process is maintained indefinitely from shift to shift. The rolls are lifted into the treatment machine using an overheard lifting device. Treated rolls are separated from current-run rolls and doffed from the treatment process. They are packaged using an automated wrap and transported for shipping.
Bending/Stooping: Occasionally. Bending to attach roll transport hardware and to transport materials to floor approximately 2x/ work cycle.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must have ability to calculate measurements using tape measures, micrometers, and/or calipers. Must have strong organizational and time management skills and ability to use Microsoft Word or Excel effectively as data entry skills are required.

This job is run on three consecutive 8-hour shifts at 7a-3p, 3p-11p and 11p to 7a five days per week. Exposures include Noise, temperature extremes due to weather, moisture, dust, concrete, moving vehicles and machinery. The job requires four operators who rotate between any of four assignments; panel, sewing machine, bailer and truck driver. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, recordkeeping, checking specifications and settings, machine and process operation, surveillance of operation and process, sampling, quality checks, housekeeping and supply maintenance. A work cycle is determined by the donning of a new roll and the doffing of the previous roll. Average work cycle time is 20 minutes and maximum work cycle time is 30 minutes. Operators must be capable of forklift operation. This job is a permanent assignment.
A person in this position may work with and handle hazardous materials and waste. He/She will receive the degree of training that is needed for the hazardous waste handling duties that may be assigned to them.

Must follow prescribed safety procedures for work area. Job requires interaction with others, forklift operation in close proximity to others. Use of overhead hoist is required for all roll lifts. Hearing protection and safety glasses are required.
