    Position Summary

    The primary focus of this position is to support the product improvements and new product development for the thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) business for Firestone Building Products. The qualified candidate will also be responsible for material sourcing and production support for the production of TPO membranes.


    The essential functions of this position could include, but are not limited to the following:

    1. Formulating and compounding TPO materials used in the roofing systems with the supervision of a senior scientist.    
    2. Understanding of ASTM test methods and basic design criteria for roofing systems.
    3. A basic understanding of the roof systems.
    4. Maintaining and developing raw material specifications, purchase specifications and manufacturing formulation specifications.
    5. Working safely in a laboratory environment.
    6. Operating the lab compounding and TPO sheeting (Co-Ex) lines and supervising such lab work.
    7. Resource for technical support for TPO products.
    8. Must be proficient with MS Office and SharePoint.
    9. Over night travel approximately 15%.


    Qualifications include:

    1. Bachelors in Chemical Engineering or a related field plus five years industrial experience.
    2. Must be able to process materials in laboratory equipment. 
    3. Ability to travel overnight approximately 15%.
    4. Experience in LEAN Culture is preferred.
    5. Experience with MS Project is preferred.
    6. Experience with design of experiment is preferred
